Asthma and pregnancy (Beyond the Basics) 

Introduction
 Asthma is the most common condition affecting the lungs during pregnancy. At one point, up to 8 percent of pregnant women have asthma. Many women worry about how the changes will affect their asthma pregnancy and if the treatment of asthma will harm the baby. With proper asthma treatment, most women can breathe easy, having a normal pregnancy and a healthy baby. Overall, the risk of uncontrolled asthma is much greater than the risk of taking medication to control asthma. Treatment of asthma during pregnancy is most effective when a woman receives regular medical care and closely follow the treatment plan. Before becoming pregnant, women who suffer from asthma should discuss their condition with a health care provider. Women who discover that they are pregnant should continue their treatment for asthma. Abrupt discontinuation of drugs against asthma can be dangerous for you and your baby
